Thursday August 8, 2024 | Journal prompt | Selective mutism feels like

Selective mutism is primarily considered an anxiety disorder rather than a form of physical pain. However, it can be emotionally and psychologically painful for those who experience it. The intense anxiety and fear associated with selective mutism can lead to significant distress and discomfort123.

If you’re exploring this topic for personal growth or understanding, it might be helpful to consider how anxiety and emotional pain manifest in different ways. How do you feel about the impact of anxiety on your own life?

Selective mutism feels like emotional pain to me. I feel like I can't speak to people or even can't find the words to say. Often, I probably do say the wrong thing by accident or even say too much.  Selective mutism feels like a lump in my throat all the time that I can't get loose no matter how much water I drink.

I'm not done with this journal prompt yet.
