When I first noticed this snorting tic, it was in the spring of 2018 and it was snorting. It's almost like it sounds like I'm clearing my throat.  There is another tic that I do that is even more annoying. I can't explain it though unless it's on video.  I find myself doing that at least every five minutes.   There is a trick I hearned.  It's the 5,4,3,2,1 meditation. It's for anxiety but it could work for other things since people with tics need to relax more anyway. My doctor (in Houston) has said it was something like Tourettes but it wasn't Tourettes. What did he say it was that it was like Tourettes but it wasn't Tourettes?  How many G__ D___ tic disorders are out there?  Well anyway, here is the meditation.  Does it or does it not sound like I have Tourettes Syndrome?  Well the only cursing I do is saying the word SHIT.  Sometimes another word slips out. The mother of all curse words. If I am around people I can speak comfortably with, I'll excuse myself nicely.  

5, 4, 3, 2, 1 exercise

The 54321 (or 5, 4, 3, 2, 1) method is a grounding exercise designed to manage acute stress and reduce anxiety. It involves identifying

5 things I can see

4 things I can touch

3 things I can hear

2 things I can smell

and 1 thing I can taste.

By doing so, it helps shift your focus to the present moment.


Another mindfulness meditation that I learned is setting the timer for one minute and see if I can resist the urge for at least one minute. Sometimes I can't do it and sometimes I can.
